How to install PSN Store blocked PSP Demos on your PSVita/PSTV with a CFW PS3

Post by bosshunter » Tue Oct 25, 2016 3:19 am

This tutorial shows you how to install PSP Demos on your PSVita/PSTV which are not directly available through the PSN Store.

WARNING: First of all I must say that in order to do this we need to use idu-mode on your PSVita/PSTV. If you do every step as it follows you won't have a problem, though it's very risky. Don't do this if you're not sure about it. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

What is idu-mode?
This app allows you to convert retail Vita to DEMO MODE and DEMO MODE to retail. It will allow you to install pkg files through Package Installer. It has been reported that IDU mode auto-updates on boot so keep that in mind. Turn off your PSVita/PSTV Wifi or use Vita Update Blocker and you'll be fine, so read its tutorial very carefully.

Let's take Pixel Junk Monsters Deluxe Demo for example. It's only 12MB.

Thing you will need:
-PSVita/PSTV 3.60 HENkaku with idu-mode and Package Installer
-PS3 with CFW
-Vita Update Blocker
-FTP Client (FileZilla)
-QCMA

1-Access PSN Store with PS3 and download the PSP Demo
2-Transfer the pkg file from PS3 path "dev_hdd0/vsh/game_pkg/XXXXXXXX/" through FTP and put it on your "PSV Packages" QCMA folder
3-Transfer the rif file from PS3 path "dev_hdd0/home/XXXXXXXX/exdata/" through FTP
4-Turn off your PSVita/PSTV Wifi and/or run Vita Update Blocker (don't forget to set the vita update blocker proxy on your PSVita/PSTV Wifi Advanced Settings!)
5-Open idu-mode and press X to turn it on, power off, power on, press L+R+UP+START to exit DEMO mode and install the pkg file using Package Installer and QCMA
6-Open idu-mode again and press O to clear IDU mode, power off, power on
7-Transfer the rif file to "ux0/pspemu/PSP/LICENSE/" through FTP
8-The Demo is now ready to play

Won't it be enough to install through package installer from Idu Vita installed on normal Vita?

I'm pretty sure you could also get the license from a psp and still have it work, you could get the pkg using proxy on ofw PS3 or maybe psp, not sure if that has a proxy option tho

No, the pkg installer will install it but without the license (rif file) it will error out. So you can use a CFW PSP or CFW PS3 to get the rif file and you can use Charles proxy to get the link to the pkg file if you don't have a PS3.

We also have a page with all the links to pkg files here.

I just found the pkg link through Charles Proxy for the EU - Pixel Junk Monsters Deluxe Demo that I used on this tutorial and it's not in that file.

I'm not sure if I am allowed to post the direct link here, so anyone who wants it pm or tweet me and I can send the link.

It's legal to post links of DRM-free content, can you please provide the .pkg link?

I already have the license file, thank you.

I know this is an old post but is there any way to do this without a ps3 or are the package files different? i just downloaded the LocoRoco demo using adrenaline, got the .rif file but when i try to install the .pkg i just get an error every time, i figured that getting the license and package files by any means would be enough but it doesn't seem to be working.

Here you can use adrenaline to help you get the rif file.
