I thought this might be helpful to any new gamestick owners..if you want to stay in dev mode and don't want to try the custom rom..

It is not perfect, but it's still a million times better that what PlayJam ever gave us.

Requirements:

- USB Mouse

- microSD card

- GameStick with Developer software -- See how to do the conversion here

Instructions:

1) Using a PC/MAC: Download and unzip this whole package http://www53.zippyshare.com/v/52887143/file.html on the microSD card;

2) Put the card back in the Gamestick, boot up, and use the apk installer to scan your microSD card and install ES File Explorer (Only!)

/// USING A USB MOUSE FROM THIS POINT:

3) Open ES File Explorer; click the Earth/Smartphone-shaped button in the upper/left corner;

4) Request ES File Explorer root access by clicking the button and switching it to ON;

5) Now click the whole bar to access the hidden options;

6) Select Mount R/W;

7) Tick the boxes like this;

8 ) Go to /sdcard/external_sdcard/GameStick Gpak/GameStick Gapps/ and copy every file to your clipboard.

9) Go to /system/app/, and paste the files here.

10) Now, for every apk you just copied,

-- Select an apk by clicking and holding the left mouse button (LONG CLICK) to bring the menu, then click properties; that'll bring you to this screen;

-- Select change permissions and tick the boxes like this;

----- Rince and repeat for every. single. app. you just copied.

11) Time to reboot your stick!

\\\ USB MOUSE IS NO LONGER NEEDED AT THIS POINT

12) Android will update system apps, and.. Google Play should now appear in the app drawer; congrats! Click it and enter your Google credentials.

Note: The Play Store might not be fully functionnal right off the bat, as is it syncs data and downloads silent updates; give it time. Then, reboot once or two.
..And you wont see every app like you usually do; paid apps wont appear normaly.. but you can still browse to the MY APPS section and select the "ALL" tab;

There, you will be able to browse through the list every app you ever installed and paid for and be able to install them normally. Easy peasy. Updates will show up and everything.

You can also install apps from the Play Store web interface using any web browser.

Enjoy!! :D

FYI: Asphalt 8 is really too much for the poor Stick, but the 7th runs buttery smooth and is responsive. So are Riptide GP2, Rayman Jungle Run, Sonic CD and Raiden Legacy. -- I highly recommend buying AllCast, then installing AllCast Receiver on the Stick; works like a charm.
If you are rooted, you can even cast music on it using Google Music just like you would on a ChromeCast.
