Okay: 1) Install the hack 2) Update if thats really necessary. I don't recommend it though 3) Directly make a full backup with the Content Manager Assistant (CMA) 4) Enjoy. (If the database decides to rebuild itself you can always re-install said backup) And of course you can turn of the console!

Yes. But once your database rebuilds, it will be gone and there is no way to reinstall it on a higher firmware. You can create a data backup with CMA though and use that if the database should rebuild.
