VHBL gSPS Help

Hello.
I am running gsps on version 3.4, test 3 build 152 via Vhbl. I played Pokemon emerald and eventually saved in game (not with the emulators save state) and quit using gsps's menu. When I went back to play again it gets stuck on a load rom screen and crashes with a vita error code of c1-2858-3. I have tried the load new cartridge feature which bypasses the freeze but doesn't have my save file. So how can I fix the loading issue and play with the in game saving system?
I am aware that the problem is most likely where the system tries to look for the saves.
